My Mold Detective® Helps Restore Home Air Quality

Affordable DIY kit accurately measures mold, dust, and pollen—the first step in removing contaminants.

Atlanta, GA (October 2016) – My Mold Detective® is a first-of-its-kind product: an easy-to-use, DIY kit that
“captures” the breathable air contaminants in a home to identify and quantify them. Using technology identical
to the professional-grade tools employed by indoor environmental professionals, My Mold Detective provides
an accurate and affordable assessment that property owners can use to determine if they have a problem in
their home or apartment building that may require remediation.

Remediation contractors get many calls from homeowners worried that they have a mold or air quality problem,
but the high cost of professional testing many times deters them from getting the answers they need. The My
Mold Detective kit is an excellent first step, providing property owners with an accurate, independent analysis of
their air from a professional and accredited laboratory. It is an agreed best practice that property owners
should contact an IAQ professional to visit the property and perform necessary mold assessments and mold
testing. Unfortunately, the average property owner is reluctant in hiring an IAQ Professional due to the expense
and the customer’s perception that they don’t have a problem. My Mold Detective has created the
thermometer for the home with its DIY mold testing kit. Armed with these results, the property owners can
follow up with the remediation and IAQ specialists to determine what further steps, if any, they should take.

Air quality professionals understand that unhealthy air in homes is a matter of increasing concern. According to
the Environmental Protection Agency, “a growing body of scientific evidence has indicated that the air within
homes and other buildings can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor air in even the largest and most
industrialized cities. Other research indicates that people spend approximately 90 percent of their time indoors.
Thus, for many people, the risks to health may be greater due to exposure to air pollution indoors than
outdoors (1).”

At the same time, more than half of the U.S. population is sensitized to one or more allergens (2). These allergens
can include pollen, pet dander, carbon, fiberglass, dust mites, and mold spores. When any of these allergens are
present at elevated levels in homes, they irritate the eyes, skin, nose, throat, and lungs of the people who live
there. Allergic reactions are not usually life-threatening, but they do make everyday living in a home
uncomfortable for the people who suffer from them.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, when certain mold spores are present in
abnormally high quantities, they can present especially hazardous health risks to humans, including allergic
reactions or toxic poisoning by mycotoxins, or cause fungal infection (mycosis) (3).
With My Mold Detective, remediation specialists finally have a resource for potential clients who are tired of
suffering from these symptoms. These homeowners need to get at the root of their air quality problems so they
can hire professional help to get the problem under control. My Mold Detective serves as the first step in getting
them that resolution.

My Mold Detective’s mold & dust test kit contains a reusable air flow sampling pump, air cassettes to test both
indoor and outdoor air samples and a tape lift to test for allergens and surface molds. Once homeowners send
the samples to the laboratory and receive the results, they can call the My Mold Detective Help Line (1-855-
MOLD-123) to get connected with a pre-screened, qualified, local mold professional who can help them get the
mold out of their homes. “We’ve found that our customers almost always turn to us for assistance in finding a
resolution to their mold issue after using our test and receiving an elevated lab report. We feel the responsibility
to assist often terrified homeowners with next steps. Due to the high volume of customer requested referrals,
we have been able to create a national Network of certified, reliable and highly-rated remediators that we trust
and recommend to our customers,” says Fred Rodriguez, President and Chief Executive of the company.

My Mold Detective is now offering remediation contractors the opportunity to become a Select Dealer to sell its
products directly to their prospective customers. Becoming a Select Dealer provides remediation professionals
with the opportunity to make a small profit on each My Mold Detective’s Mold-Test Kit they sell but more
importantly it helps Remediators better distinguish which customers have elevated mold or air quality problems
which ultimately saves them time, money and increases their contract sales for mold remediation projects.

“By providing remediation contractors the opportunity to recommend and sell My Mold Detective directly to
potential clients, it eliminates many property owners’ negative perception of conflict of interest,” says
Rodriguez. “Through our model, remediation specialists, the laboratories, and My Mold Detective’s DIY Mold
Testing processes are all independent third-parties which allow our customers to trust our mold testing results.”
